According to Israeli officials, US President Donald Trump is not expected to visit Israel for Independence Day and will not take part in the Israel Prize ceremony, including via video. While the White House has not issued an official confirmation, officials in Jerusalem believe the timing of the Iran ceasefire, set to end just a day before the ceremony, makes his participation highly unlikely. Israel now plans to present the award to him at a later date during a future visit, with only a video segment referencing his selection expected to be shown during the event.
The change has also affected the ceremony's program. A planned performance by Israeli singer Noa Kirel, which was intended to honor the US president and potentially include his granddaughters, has been postponed. Preparations are also being adjusted due to uncertainty, with the possibility that the ceremony will be recorded in advance instead of held live. President Isaac Herzog and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana are expected to attend the recording, while Education Minister Yoav Kisch will deliver the main remarks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not expected to attend, similar to last year.
Separately, Argentine President Javier Milei is still scheduled to arrive in Israel for Independence Day events and is expected to participate, including in a visit tied to the opening of Argentina's embassy in Jerusalem.
