Following failed US-Iran negotiations in Pakistan, US President Donald Trump announces a major escalation, saying the US Navy will move to block the Strait of Hormuz and target vessels tied to Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump says the talks "went well" overall, but emphasizes that "the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not" agreed to. He adds, "Effective immediately... \[the US Navy\] will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz."
Trump also states, "I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran," calling such payments illegal. Accusing Iran of "world extortion," he warns: "Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!"
