United States President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News that he urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call yesterday to scale back Israel's strikes in Lebanon in order to help preserve the ceasefire with Iran. "I spoke with Bibi and he's going to low-key it," Trump said. "I just think we have to be sort of a little more low-key."
Despite that, the past day saw one of the most intense rounds of IDF strikes since the war began. United States Vice President JD Vance said Israel had agreed to "check itself" in Lebanon.
Trump also expressed optimism about upcoming talks with Iran expected this weekend in Pakistan, even as Tehran has warned it may abandon negotiations if the strikes continue. "They talk much differently when you're at a meeting than they do to the press. They're much more reasonable," Trump said, adding, "They're agreeing to all the things that they have to agree to." He warned that if a deal is not reached, "it's going to be very painful."
