US President Donald Trump says a wounded F-15 crew member has been rescued from deep inside Iran in what he describes as a rare and high-risk mission, carried out as Iranian forces were "looking hard, in big numbers, and getting close."
In a post on Truth Social, Trump writes, "We have rescued the seriously wounded, and really brave, F-15 Crew Member/Officer," adding that the officer is "a highly respected Colonel." He stresses the unusual nature of the operation, saying, "This type of raid is seldom attempted because of the danger to 'man and equipment.' It just doesn't happen!"
He says the extraction followed an earlier rescue of the pilot, noting, "The second raid came after the first one... where we rescued the pilot in broad daylight... spending seven hours over Iran," calling both missions "an AMAZING show of bravery and talent by all." Trump adds the airman "will be just fine" and says he will hold a press conference with military officials Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Oval Office.
