Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has removed Army Chief of Staff Gen

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has removed Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, the Army's most senior general, in the middle of the Iran war. George was asked to step down and take immediate retirement. A senior Defense Department official said it was "time for a leadership change in the Army."
Gen. Christopher LaNeve, the current vice chief of staff and a former military aide to Hegseth, will serve as acting Army chief of staff. LaNeve previously commanded the 82nd Airborne Division, elements of which are currently deploying to the Middle East as the U.S. weighs ground options in Iran. The Pentagon described him as "completely trusted" by Hegseth.
The removal comes as tens of thousands of U.S. troops are deployed across the region, with the Pentagon preparing options for potential ground operations involving the Strait of Hormuz, Kharg Island, and Iran's enriched uranium. George was interviewed last week during a visit to the 82nd Airborne but declined to discuss the war. He is the latest senior military leader removed by Hegseth, following the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Chief of Naval Operations, and head of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
