Israeli defense sources say the military has nearly exhausted the target list it drew up at the start of the war against Iran and is now moving to a new phase focused on economic damage to the regime.
Since February 28, the IAF has dropped more than 13,000 bombs across hundreds of strike waves, hitting air defense systems, ballistic missile launchers, weapons production facilities, nuclear sites, and command headquarters. IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said Saturday the military would complete strikes on all critical weapons production assets within days. The defense establishment assesses that Iran's ability to manufacture weapons has been set back by years.
On orders from Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF is now targeting economic infrastructure. Strikes have already hit major gas facilities in southern Iran and two of the country's largest steel factories. Additional economic targets are in the pipeline.
Israel has paused strikes on energy infrastructure ahead of President Trump's April 6 deadline for Iran to accept a ceasefire proposal, focusing instead on industrial sites. The U.S. is leading strikes and operations on two remaining fronts: Iran's nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The IDF says it is providing Washington with intelligence on the strait and surrounding islands, including Kharg Island.
The defense establishment describes conditions for regime collapse as having been achieved "above and beyond" initial objectives. Whether the Iranian public acts on them remains to be seen.
