In response to Iranian ballistic missile attacks over the weekend that struck central and southern Israel and caused injuries, Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced new restrictions on operations at Ben Gurion Airport, following a security assessment and recommendations from defense officials.
The measures, set to take effect Monday at 5 p.m., will sharply limit flight activity. Only one arrival and one departure will be allowed per hour, with no cap on incoming passengers but a maximum of 50 passengers on departing flights, reduced from 120.
"In light of their recommendations and in order to prevent possible harm to human life, I have decided for the time being to reduce the number of takeoffs and landings," Regev said, adding, "This is an inconvenience, but our commitment to human life is our top priority." She noted that the guidelines may change at any time depending on further assessments, as around 140,000 Israelis have already returned on repatriation flights since the airport began reopening.
