The IDF says it killed the commander of Iran's Basij paramilitary unit, Gholamreza Soleimani, and struck more than 10 Basij posts across Tehran over the past day. The military says the strikes are part of an ongoing campaign that has dismantled hundreds of Basij and IRGC headquarters and command centers across Iran since the start of Operation Roar of the Lion.
The IDF says Basij forces had repeatedly relocated to alternative headquarters after their previous positions were struck, and were most recently identified operating from posts embedded in public areas in central Tehran. One of the targets struck was an emergency command post operating from a former football club compound. The military says the strikes, guided by IDF intelligence, are causing significant and ongoing damage to the unit's capabilities. The Basij unit serves as both part of the regime's armed forces and its primary instrument for violent repression of civilian protests.
