The Pentagon has identified six US service members who were killed earlier this week when a KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq. Officials say the incident occurred on Thursday and was not caused by hostile or friendly fire.
Those killed were John Klinner, 33, of Auburn, Alabama; Ariana Savino, 31, of Covington, Washington; Ashley Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, Kentucky; Seth Koval, 38, of Mooresville, Indiana; Curtis Angst, 30, of Wilmington, Ohio; and Tyler Simmons, 28, of Columbus, Ohio. Klinner, Savino, and Pruitt served in the US Air Force, while Koval, Angst, and Simmons were members of the US Air National Guard.
The aircraft was involved in a mission connected to US operations against Iran when it went down in western Iraq. Another aircraft taking part in the operation landed safely. The crash raised the total number of US troops killed during the campaign to at least 13. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
