The IDF Home Front Command says it has been working over the past two weeks to improve the precision of its early warning system for ballistic missile launches from Iran.
At present, an early alert is sent soon after the army detects a missile launch. Because the missile's exact landing area is not yet clear at that stage, the warning is usually issued across a broad region. Only later, once the missile's trajectory becomes clearer, are sirens activated in more specific locations.
Under the updated system, the Home Front Command plans to issue these early warnings to smaller areas before sirens sound. Officials say the change is intended to reduce situations where civilians receive an initial alert but do not ultimately hear sirens in their town, with the goal of lowering such cases by about 30 to 50 percent.
