All 140 students and staff at Temple Israel were unharmed after an attacker rammed a truck into the synagogue and opened fire. The congregation praised its security team for confronting the gunman, saying, "Our teachers followed their training and kept the children safe and calm." They also thanked neighbors and local authorities: "We are deeply and humbly grateful... What incredible neighbors we have. What incredible police force we have. We wanted you to know we are safe, and we love you all."
The FBI has labeled the incident a "targeted act of violence against the Jewish community," with Jennifer Runyan, special agent in charge of the Detroit field office, saying, "We are leading the investigation as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community."
US President Donald Trump spoke at a White House event, calling the attack "terrible" and "absolutely incredible." "I want to send our love to the Jewish community and all in the Detroit area following today's attack," he said, promising a full investigation. He also briefly updated on the war with Iran, saying it is "going very well" and "moving along very rapidly."
Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's Foreign Minister, expressed shock on social media. "We are in contact with the Jewish community and local authorities. Antisemitism must never be allowed to rear its ugly head," he said, highlighting the global concern over attacks on Jewish communities.
