A short time ago, authorities in Detroit responded to an active shooter situation near the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, located at 5725 Walnut Lake Road, prompting officials to urge residents to avoid the area and shelter in place.
The Jewish Federation of Detroit confirmed the incident, saying, "We are aware of an active security incident at Temple Israel. Law enforcement are responding. Our Jewish agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown. We ask community members to stay away from the area at this time."
Nearby schools and houses of worship were instructed to remain in lockdown while officers, including state police and units from West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills, Clawson, Auburn Hills, Birmingham, and Pleasant Ridge, rushed to the scene.
