The IDF acknowledged that warnings to the public came late ahead of a large rocket and drone attack

By Sammy,

The IDF acknowledged that warnings to the public came late ahead of a large rocket and drone attack by Hezbollah on northern Israel. Senior military officials said assessments were circulating online and in media before formal notification was issued, and that notifications to civil authorities came "shortly before the barrage began." While military officials have signaled the need to review internal communication procedures, there has not yet been a publicly attributed statement in which an IDF spokesperson uses the word "mistake" in a direct quote on this specific point.

In the hours before the attack, Israeli officials told CNN they were "preparing for a significant escalation" of attacks by Hezbollah and Iran, language reflecting heightened concern but not a formal public assessment from the IDF itself.

During and after the barrage, the IDF's official messages focused on defense and readiness. As the military's spokesperson said in a separate briefing after cross‑border fire from Lebanon: "It is important to emphasize: Follow only Home Front Command instructions. The IDF is prepared with strong defenses and will do whatever is required to protect Israel's citizens. I say from here to all our enemies: Whoever tries to harm us will pay a heavy price."

Hezbollah's operation involved roughly 200 rockets and around 20 drones, according to Israeli military assessments. Most rockets were intercepted or impacted open areas, with two striking residential zones and causing light injuries and some property damage. Nearly all drones were intercepted, with one crashing near a border community without exploding.

The IDF said it carried out actions before the attack to disrupt elements of the planned barrage, including strikes on some launchers and command infrastructure in Lebanon, and that it targeted additional launchers once the barrage began.

Since March 2, after the killing of Ali Khamenei, Hezbollah has maintained frequent rocket and drone launches toward Israel and Israeli forces along the northern border, and the IDF has publicly emphasized preparedness and defensive measures in response.
