A Hezbollah missile struck the Elah Valley Satellite Station in central Israel on Monday destroying several satellite dishes at the facility, BNN has learned. The station, located in the Judean foothills approximately 150 kilometers south of the Lebanese border, serves as the primary ground control teleport for Spacecom's AMOS communications satellite fleet.
The AMOS constellation provides direct-to-home broadcast, broadband internet, and data services to customers across Israel, the Middle East, Europe, and sub-Saharan Africa. Damage to ground-based uplink and downlink infrastructure at the teleport disrupts the ability to communicate with and command the satellites in geostationary orbit, regardless of the condition of the satellites themselves.
The strike is among the deepest infrastructure attacks carried out by Hezbollah since the group resumed hostilities on March 2, following the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the joint US-Israeli Operation Roaring Lion.
