By Bernie,
President Trump is considering deploying U.S. special forces into Iran to seize the country's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, Bloomberg reports. The move comes after American intelligence agencies determined that Iran, or potentially another group, could still retrieve the primary store of enriched uranium from beneath the Isfahan nuclear site, despite U.S. strikes that entombed it last year.
Officials familiar with the classified assessments say Iran can now access the uranium through a very narrow entry point. The material is stored in canisters in gas form, though it remains unclear how quickly Iran could move it. The intelligence represents a significant shift in the assessment of whether strikes successfully denied Iran access to its most sensitive nuclear material, and adds urgency to the administration's consideration of ground operations inside Iranian territory. Trump said on Friday that U.S. ground troops in Iran "could" happen "for very good reason."
