Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced the deployment of two naval frigates and two F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus following drone strikes on the island. According to Cypriot government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, drones targeted the British military base at Akrotiri, prompting evacuations and the activation of emergency security protocols. In response, the Hellenic Defense Council ordered the immediate dispatch of the frigate Kimon and a second vessel equipped with the Kentauros anti-drone system. Dendias stated he will travel to Nicosia on Tuesday to coordinate joint military operations. The deployment activates the unified defense doctrine, a mutual security framework between Athens and Nicosia. Under this official policy, Greece integrates its defense planning with Cyprus and formally guarantees military assistance to the island in the event of further attack.
