A senior White House official clarified that despite US President Donald Trump telling The Atlantic he "will be talking" with Iranian leaders interested in dialogue, no discussions are imminent.

The official emphasized in a statement to reporters that "President Trump noted that new potential leadership in Iran has expressed a desire to engage, and while he has agreed to talk eventually, for now Operation Epic Fury continues without interruption," referring to the ongoing US-led airstrikes coordinated with Israel.

Trump had said the Iranian side "should have acted sooner" on practical steps and that he "will be talking to them" when the time comes, though he did not provide a schedule for the talks. His comments followed a US-Israeli strike targeting Iran's leadership, which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, leaving the country without an appointed successor.
