In a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, he announced the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, calling him "one of the most evil people in history." Trump said the killing represents "justice for the people of Iran" as well as for Americans and "people from many countries throughout the world" who, in his words, were "killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty thugs."
According to Trump, Khamenei and other senior figures were unable to evade "our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems," adding that "working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do." Trump described the moment as "the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country," and claimed that elements of the IRGC, military, police, and security forces "no longer want to fight" and are "looking for Immunity from us." He repeated his warning from the previous night: "Now they can have Immunity, later they only get Death!"
Trump said he hopes the IRGC and police will "peacefully merge with the Iranian Patriots" in order to restore the nation to "the Greatness it deserves." He stated that Iran had been "very much destroyed and, even, obliterated" within a single day, and that "heavy and pinpoint bombing" will continue "throughout the week or, as long as necessary" to achieve what he described as "peace throughout the Middle East and, indeed, the world."
The statement concluded with: "Thank you for your attention to this matter. President Donald J. Trump."
