Israel has formally approved Mohamed Hagi as the first ambassador from Somaliland

By Sammy,

Israel has formally approved Mohamed Hagi as the first ambassador from Somaliland, sending a letter to the office of Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi. Hagi, an adviser to Abdullahi and a long-time advocate of Israel-Somaliland relations, will assume the role while Israel prepares to appoint its own ambassador to Hargeisa. This follows Israel's December recognition of Somaliland's independence, a status Somaliland has sought since declaring separation from Somalia in 1991.

Practical cooperation is already underway. Israel's development agency, MASHAV, is hosting senior officials from Somaliland's Water Authority in Israel for professional training, signaling an early expansion of bilateral engagement.
