Australia has directed families of embassy staff in Israel and Lebanon to leave amid the "deteriorating security situation in the Middle East," the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced.

The government has also offered voluntary departures to dependants of Australian officials in Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Australian embassies in Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai consulate remain open.

DFAT warned the situation was unpredictable and could worsen with little warning. "Conflict in the Middle East could impact safety and security elsewhere. There is a risk of reprisal attacks and further escalation," the advisory said.
