EU foreign ministers and Brussels-based diplomats met with Nikolay Mladenov

By Sammy,

EU foreign ministers and Brussels-based diplomats met with Nikolay Mladenov, the director of the Board of Peace, to discuss ongoing stabilization efforts in Gaza. Mladenov, a former Bulgarian politician and UN envoy, was appointed by US President Donald Trump to oversee reconstruction and humanitarian initiatives in the war-torn territory.

Ahead of the meeting, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stressed the bloc's commitment to contributing to Gaza's peace process. She said Mladenov briefed EU officials on both the humanitarian situation and the Board of Peace's strategic plans, which include EU participation in stabilization and relief efforts. "It was good to hear from Mladenov that it's really right now trying to improve the situation, that he sees this in the same way, that actually they also need us there contributing," Kallas said.

She added that "one EU nation blocked new sanctions on Israeli settlers agreed by the rest of the bloc," without naming the country, and noted that the EU's plan to train Palestinian police in Gaza is still awaiting Israel's approval.
