The political-security cabinet meeting was postponed from Thursday to Sunday to prevent potential miscalculation by Iran, Israeli officials said. Israeli security and rescue organizations have been placed on high alert following an assessment that President Trump will soon decide on a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation.
In recent closed discussions, Prime Minister Netanyahu's working assumption has been that Iran will launch missiles at Israel even if the IDF does not participate in American strikes, leading to instructions for emergency services and Home Front Command to prepare for war.
Two Israeli sources told CNN that Israel has raised its alert level and accelerated operational and defensive planning due to "growing indications" of a possible joint attack in the coming days. One source said the expected operation, if approved by Trump, would "go beyond the 12-day war" with coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes.
Israel's primary target would be destroying or severely damaging Iran's ballistic missile infrastructure. The Houthis are expected to join immediately by launching missiles and drones at Israel. There is also a scenario in which Hezbollah participates, unlike during the 12-day war.
A diplomatic source was quoted by Al Jazeera saying "American patience for Iranian delays may run out faster than Tehran thinks."
