U.S. and Israeli officials are increasingly signaling that military action against Iran may be imminent if diplomatic efforts fail, with one U.S. adviser telling Axios there is a 90% chance of kinetic action in the coming weeks.
The U.S. has deployed two aircraft carriers, 12 warships, hundreds of jets, air defense systems, and conducted over 150 cargo flights with 50 additional fighters en route to the region. Washington has given Iran two weeks to present a detailed nuclear proposal, mirroring the timeline that preceded the June 2025 strikes, Axios reported.
Israeli sources told Axios that Israel is preparing for strikes within days and is aiming for outcomes beyond just nuclear and missile targets.
Former Israeli Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin said Israel is "much closer than before" to conflict and recommended Israelis "think twice" before flying abroad this weekend.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich sought to reassure the public, saying he would not cancel travel plans for the weekend. "We won't be caught by surprise, but beyond that we are waiting to see," he said. Smotrich added that any deal must address Iran's nuclear program, missiles, and terror financing. "Iran doesn't just threaten Israel, it threatens the entire West."
Former Israeli National Security Council head Yaakov Amidror said Israelis should not halt their lives. "If war comes, we should not stop just because there is a very reasonable chance that the Americans will attack."
