An IDF soldier was killed overnight in the southern Gaza Strip in what the army has classified as a friendly fire incident. The military says he was struck by gunfire from fellow Israeli forces during activity in the area, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being examined.
The fallen serviceman has been identified as Staff Sgt. Ofri Yafe, 21, from HaYogev, a fighter in the Paratroopers Brigade's Reconnaissance Unit. An investigation into the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting is ongoing.
