The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford has departed the Caribbean Sea and is now in the Atlantic Ocean en route to the Middle East, defense officials said. The carrier was ordered last week to deploy to the region amid heightened tensions with Iran.
The Ford is accompanied by the destroyers USS Mahan, USS Thomas Hudner, USS Winston S. Churchill, USS Bainbridge, and USS Stockdale. It will join the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group already operating in the region.
