A senior official in the Prime Minister's Office, quoted in Israeli media, said US President Donald Trump acted "entirely on his own initiative" when he criticized President Isaac Herzog for not granting a pardon to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "The prime minister learned about it from the media and had no prior knowledge of it," the official said, adding that Netanyahu also "had no prior knowledge of the president's remarks on this issue in his speech in the Knesset."
