Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for Washington aboard Wing of Zion ahead of a White House meeting with US President Donald Trump scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time. The trip was moved up from its original date as Netanyahu seeks to influence the direction of ongoing US nuclear talks with Iran, according to an Israeli official cited in local media. Before takeoff, Netanyahu said he will present Israel's core principles on the negotiations, describing them as relevant to any country seeking "peace and security." He added that the leaders will also discuss additional issues, including Gaza.
According to the Israeli official, Netanyahu is advocating for any future agreement to block Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, eliminate uranium enrichment, restrict ballistic missile development, and end support for regional militant groups. US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, who joined the flight, described what he called "extraordinary alignment between Israel and the United States" on Iran, saying many hope for a diplomatic resolution but that "it's up to Iran." He added that, as far as he knows, Washington and Jerusalem share the same red lines. The diplomatic push follows recent US-Iran talks in Oman that both sides characterized as positive, with Tehran signaling possible concessions on its enriched uranium stockpile while continuing to reject negotiations over its missile program and its support for armed groups in the region. Netanyahu has pointed to his repeated meetings with Trump as evidence of what he called the uniquely close relationship between the two countries and between the two leaders personally. No press conference or public statements are currently planned around the meeting.
