According to analysts, "backfilling the tunnel entrances would help dampen any potential airstrike and also make ground access in a special forces raid to seize or destroy any highly enriched uranium that may be housed inside difficult."
The defensive preparations come amid escalating pressure from President Trump, who continues threatening military action unless Iran negotiates over its nuclear program while also citing the regime's crackdown on protesters. The institute notes these fortification efforts mirror earlier patterns: "Preparations like these were last observed in the days before Operation Midnight Hammer struck facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan." Isfahan has served as a key production site for uranium gas used in enrichment processes.
Earlier imagery from last month showed new roof construction that appeared designed to "recover any sort of remaining assets or rubble without letting us know what they are getting out of there." The absence of vehicle activity at the sealed entrances suggests Iran may have moved sensitive materials into protected underground locations.
