Azar Mansouri, the leader of Iran's Reform Front coalition and a longtime reformist figure
By Sammy,
Azar Mansouri, the leader of Iran's Reform Front coalition and a longtime reformist figure, has been arrested along with former parliament member Ebrahim Asgharzadeh and former deputy foreign minister Mohsen Aminzadeh, according to Iran's Fars news agency. Authorities accuse the three of actions including harming national unity, opposing the constitution, cooperating with what they call hostile propaganda efforts, and building clandestine subversive structures.
A separate statement from the judiciary-affiliated Mizan Online outlet says several political figures were detained after an investigation into alleged support for the United States and Israel. The report does not identify those held, but says some suspects were formally charged while others were arrested for activities said to benefit those countries.
Mansouri, 60, who has led the Reform Front since June 2023 and previously advised former president Mohammad Khatami, has a history of arrests tied to her activism. Following protests that erupted in December, she wrote that when peaceful avenues for expression are shut down, dissent spills into the streets, and warned that violent crackdowns worsen unrest. In messages to bereaved families, she said they were not alone and described the bloodshed as an unforgivable tragedy. She was jailed after the 2009 post-election protests and received another prison sentence in 2022 on separate charges.
