Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment even if war

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment even if war is imposed, rejecting US pressure following recent diplomatic contacts. Speaking at a forum in Tehran days after meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff in Oman, he said Iran has "paid a very heavy price" for what he described as a peaceful nuclear program and insisted no outside power has the authority to dictate Iran's decisions. He also dismissed the recent US naval buildup in the Gulf, saying it does not intimidate his country.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that military force remains an option if Iran refuses to reach a nuclear agreement. Before last year's war involving Israel and the United States, Iran was enriching uranium to 60 percent purity, just below weapons-grade levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran is the only country enriching uranium to that level without possessing nuclear weapons.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said talks with Tehran must go beyond the nuclear file to also address Iran's ballistic missile program, its backing of regional proxy groups and its domestic policies, highlighting the broad disputes that negotiators still face.
