Israeli media reports that incoming Israeli Air Force chief Brig. Gen. Omer Tischler is expected to accompany Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington as part of an unusual delegation arrangement.
The trip comes as Israel currently lacks a permanent defense attaché in Washington following a dispute between IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Defense Minister Israel Katz that left the position vacant. As an interim measure, Tischler has been assigned to act as a military liaison to the Pentagon until he formally assumes command of the IAF in April. Senior US visits are typically attended by the prime minister's military secretary and the defense attaché.
Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump are expected to focus on ongoing negotiations with Iran during their talks. Tischler also recently traveled to the US with Zamir earlier this month, where they met at the Pentagon with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine and other senior American officials.
