According to the US military, an American fighter jet shot down an Iranian Shahed-139 drone early Tuesday after it flew "aggressively" toward the USS Abraham Lincoln while the aircraft carrier was transiting the Arabian Sea in international waters.
CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said the carrier was operating roughly 500 miles off Iran's southern coast when the drone maneuvered toward the ship and continued its approach despite US de-escalatory measures. An F-35C launched from the Abraham Lincoln then downed the drone in self-defense, with no injuries or damage reported.
Later the same day, Hawkins said two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats and a Mohajer drone approached a US-flagged, US-crewed commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz and threatened to board and seize it. A US guided-missile destroyer responded and is now escorting the merchant ship. Hawkins warned that continued Iranian harassment in international waters and airspace would not be tolerated.
