The Gaza Palestinian technocratic committee, known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza
By Sammy,
The Gaza Palestinian technocratic committee, known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), updated its logo earlier today, replacing the symbol it unveiled last month with a new emblem that nearly mirrors the Palestinian Authority's.
Reports noted that the updated logo is almost identical to the PA's emblem, with the main difference being the wording at the bottom, which now reads "NCAG" instead of "Palestine." The change was seen as an attempt by the committee to link itself more closely to the PA, despite Israeli efforts to keep the two separate.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office responded forcefully, saying the logo Israel was shown previously "was completely different from the one published this evening." The statement added that Israel will not accept use of the Palestinian Authority's symbol and reiterated that the PA "will not be a partner in the administration of Gaza."
Israel has long opposed any PA role in Gaza, though Netanyahu acknowledged last week that PA representatives will take part in the operational mechanism at the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt. Netanyahu also did not publicly comment when the NCAG chief commissioner's first video statement included a Palestinian flag, and most committee members reportedly have ties to the PA even if they are not currently serving in the Ramallah-based administration.
