On Sunday, Hossam al-Astal, who leads an anti-Hamas militia in the Khan Younis area and has claimed to receive Israeli military aid, said in a video statement that his fighters captured six Hamas operatives and killed several others in Batn al-Samin.
Hamas claimed a different account happened in statements released over the past day. Hamas said its forces ambushed and killed members of Israeli-backed Gazan gangs in both Khan Younis and Gaza City, adding that it confiscated military gear from the gang operating in Gaza City.
According to Hamas, the Khan Younis incident took place in Batn al-Samin, on the Hamas-controlled side of the Gaza ceasefire line in the city's southwest. Hamas's internal security "Deterrent Force" said some gang members fled, leaving behind what it called "Zionist weapons," while Hamas's Sahm 103 unit claimed the group was traveling in two vehicles and was on its way to carry out a "kidnapping operation" on Israel's behalf, with one vehicle managing to escape.
