Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar are working to organize a meeting between White House envoy Steve Witkoff and senior Iranian officials in Ankara later this week, Axios reported, citing two regional sources. An official from one of the mediating countries told Axios, "It is moving. We are doing our best." It is unclear whether the efforts have produced results.
The Trump administration has told Iran through multiple channels that it is open to meeting to negotiate a deal, a senior U.S. official told Axios. Washington has stated repeatedly in recent days that it seeks a new agreement to limit Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, though many of the conditions presented by the U.S. are considered non-starters by Tehran.
Both Iranian and American officials have expressed pessimism about the chances of reaching a deal, although Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said there is room for an agreement if circumstances change.
Israeli media reported on Sunday evening that President Trump has not made a final decision on whether to strike Iran. Several Israeli reports indicated that Israeli officials believe a strike will not happen for at least the next two weeks, though assessments have varied.
