A major investigation is underway into allegations that goods were smuggled from Israel into Gaza in exchange

A major investigation is underway into allegations that goods were smuggled from Israel into Gaza in exchange for money, in what the Ashkelon Magistrate's Court describes as a "wide-ranging security incident."
The court has now allowed publication of a sensitive detail: one of the suspects is a close relative of Shin Bet chief David Zini. The court emphasized that Zini has no involvement whatsoever in the suspected activity.
Because of the family connection, responsibility for investigating that suspect has been placed with the Israel Police rather than the Shin Bet. Earlier this week, Haaretz reported that the probe may extend to soldiers, civilians, and members of security bodies connected to a broader smuggling network.
