Channel 12, citing a senior defense official, claims Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined 11 separate opportunities to kill Yahya Sinwar in the months before Hamas's October 7, 2023 assault on southern Israel.

According to the report, during February and March 2023, the Shin Bet repeatedly determined Sinwar's location and recommended carrying out an assassination. The official alleges Netanyahu did not authorize the strike and did not convene senior officials to discuss the option.

Sinwar, described as the architect of the October 7 invasion, massacre and mass abductions, was ultimately killed by the IDF in Rafah in October 2024. The Prime Minister's Office denied the report, saying the reality was the opposite and that Netanyahu repeatedly demanded action against Hamas leadership, but was stopped by the security leadership.
