French Minister for Europe Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed France will support designating Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization on the European Union's list. With France's backing, all EU members are now in favor of proscribing the IRGC, according to the Wall Street Journal. The designation could take place in the coming days.
Barrot announced the EU will impose sanctions tomorrow in Brussels against Iranian officials responsible for repression of protesters. "They will be barred from entering European territory, and their assets will be frozen," Barrot said. He called on Iran to release prisoners, end executions, lift digital restrictions, and allow the UN Human Rights Council Fact-Finding Mission to investigate.
