After a major search operation in eastern Gaza City, Israeli forensic experts, including more than 20 dentists, examined around 250 bodies at a cemetery and ultimately identified the remains of slain policeman Master Sgt. Ran Gvili.
The Shin Bet security agency says the operation was supported by intelligence that became significantly stronger after the interrogation of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative captured in Gaza City about a month ago. According to the Shin Bet, the suspect had been involved in activity against Israeli forces during the war and was believed to have knowledge about where Gvili had been buried.
During questioning, the operative reportedly described helping transfer Gvili's body between several locations and identified additional individuals who were also aware of its whereabouts.
The Shin Bet says the information reinforced Israel's assessment that Gvili's body was buried at the cemetery, an area where Israel already had previous indications, leading to the IDF's weekend search operation at the site.
