The Israeli government has approved a broad NIS 6.2 billion ($2 billion) package to compensate and support IDF reservists in 2026, expanding financial aid and welfare benefits for those serving.
The framework includes major new assistance measures, such as a digital wallet worth up to NIS 5,000 that reservists can use for leisure, welfare purposes and certain government fees. It also provides annual grants for commanders, expanded vacation support for families, up to 100% tuition coverage for student reservists in combat roles, and wider eligibility for mental health treatment for reservists and their families.
At the same time, the IDF will introduce changes meant to reduce the overall reserve duty burden. Under the plan, battalion reservists are expected to be called up for a maximum of 55 days depending on operational needs, while the average number of reservists serving each day will be capped at 40,000, down from 60,000. The plan is backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and follows a new tiered model prioritizing combat reservists based on the risk and intensity of their service.
