As plans are set to move forward to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt in both directions this week, Israel's security cabinet is set to meet this morning to discuss the issue.
Israeli media reports that Israel has criticized the US push to proceed with reopening the crossing, particularly over the timing, with Rafah expected to reopen before the body of the final Israeli deceased hostage still held in Gaza, Ran Gvili, has been returned.
The reopening was announced Thursday by Ali Shaath, the chief commissioner of a newly formed Palestinian technocratic committee expected to help manage Gaza, and was later confirmed by Nikolay Mladenov, the Gaza envoy for US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace. The developments come after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Saturday night with US officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss next steps in the Gaza ceasefire framework.
