U.S. intelligence, obtained with Israeli assistance, indicates that Iran executed protesters despite assurances given to President Trump by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his foreign minister. Trump had previously stated that one reason for delaying a strike on Iran was an Iranian promise to halt more than 800 planned executions of detained protesters. The intelligence includes evidence of executions carried out using various methods, live fire used against street demonstrators, and executions of protesters after their capture, according to Israel Hayom.
The issue is being discussed in meetings between Prime Minister Netanyahu's team and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, who has been mediating with Iran, and adviser Jared Kushner. Both represent a faction within the Trump administration seeking a diplomatic resolution to avoid regional war. They are receiving support from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Opposing them are Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who view a strong strike against the Iranian regime as both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity. The UAE, Britain, and Jordan would provide logistical and intelligence support in the event of a U.S. attack and would participate in intercepting Iranian missiles and drones targeting strategic sites in the region.
General Bradley Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Israel on Saturday for coordination meetings with senior Israeli defense officials. According to an Israeli security source, cooperation between the two militaries has never been closer, including mutual intelligence sharing, logistical support, and joint air defense operations. The aircraft carrier group USS Abraham Lincoln is expected to reach operational proximity early this week.
