IDF reserve Staff Sgt. Maj. Eshael Babad, 38, died Thursday from wounds sustained in an October 19 incident in Rafah, the military cleared for publication. Babad, from Geva Binyamin, had been hospitalized for more than three months following the attack, which occurred a week and a half after the ceasefire in Gaza took effect.

According to the IDF, gunmen emerged from a tunnel and fired anti-tank missiles at an engineering vehicle during a tunnel detection operation. Two soldiers were killed in the same incident: Maj. Yaniv Kola, 26, and Sgt. Itai Yaavetz, 21, both from Modi'in. Babad, who served in Infantry Battalion 941 of the Menashe Brigade, is the 924th IDF fatality since the war began. He is survived by his wife Hagit and five children. His family chose to donate his organs. The funeral will be held at Mount Herzl military cemetery at 15:00.
