Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to join US President Donald Trump's proposed Board of Peace, Trump said while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Trump framed the board as one built around leverage rather than symbolism, saying, "We want all nations where people have control and power." Acknowledging that some invitees are controversial, he added, "I have some controversial people on it, but these are people who get the job done. These are people who have tremendous influence."
Explaining Putin's inclusion, Trump quipped, "If I put all babies on the board, there wouldn't be very much. So he was invited. He's accepted." He also said the board is "going to get a lot of work done that the United Nations should have done," while noting it will still "work with the United Nations."
