The IDF said it struck four border crossings on the Syria-Lebanon border in the Hermel area used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons. In a separate strike earlier Wednesday near Sidon, the military said it killed Muhammad Awasha, whom it identified as a key Hezbollah weapons smuggler.
According to the IDF, Awasha oversaw weapons smuggling operations for Hezbollah using a front company that ordered and transferred prohibited goods from multiple countries, including Iraq, Syria, and Gulf states. The military stated he also operated networks of smugglers responsible for moving weapons from Iraq through Syria into Lebanon. The IDF said it continues to monitor Hezbollah's efforts to rebuild its military capabilities along weapons transfer routes and will act against any violation of the ceasefire understandings.
