Argentine President Javier Milei has designated Iran's Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as a terrorist organization, a move welcomed by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar.
In a statement, Milei's office said the Quds Force specializes in "training for the execution of terrorist attacks in other countries," adding that Argentina considers it responsible for the 1990s bombings in Buenos Aires, including the attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA Jewish community center. A court in Argentina ruled in 2024 that Hezbollah was responsible for the AMIA attack, which killed 85 people. The designation means that members of the Quds Force and their allies are subject to "financial sanctions and operational restrictions," with the statement stressing Milei's "unbreakable commitment to recognizing terrorists for what they are."
Sa'ar welcomed the decision as a "significant step that strengthens the international front against Iranian terrorism" and said it honors "the memory of the victims of the attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA," calling on other countries to "call these terrorist organizations by their names."
