US Central Command says American forces on Friday killed Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, a leader of an al-Qaeda-affiliated group who had direct links to an ISIS gunman involved in last month's deadly attack on US personnel in Syria.
The US military says the December 13 shooting in Palmyra left American and Syrian personnel killed and wounded. Adm. Brad Cooper, who heads US Central Command, said the killing underscores Washington's determination to track down those connected to attacks on US forces.
In the weeks following the Palmyra attack, US forces have conducted a series of strikes across Syria, hitting more than 100 ISIS targets.
