According to an NBC News report, senior US officials are privately warning that Washington is not yet fully prepared to absorb a potential Iranian counterattack and that there is no guarantee the regime in Tehran would unravel quickly if struck.
The report says President Donald Trump is being presented with a slate of military options, even as he tells advisers he has no interest in a prolonged conflict and wants any action to deliver a rapid, decisive blow. One source familiar with his thinking put it simply: if he authorizes action, "he wants it to be definitive."
NBC adds that discussions include the possibility of beginning with more limited strikes while keeping escalation as a later option, stressing that the situation remains fluid and that no final decision has been taken.
