Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Washington and Jerusalem of trying to achieve politically what they failed to accomplish militarily, arguing that the current wave of unrest is being fueled from abroad. In an interview with Al Jazeera, he claimed the nationwide internet shutdown was imposed only after what he described as "terrorist operations" began, alleging that foreign-directed elements infiltrated protest crowds and attacked both demonstrators and security forces.
Amid escalating rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump about possible military action, Araghchi revealed that he contacted U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in an effort to ease tensions and buy time for diplomacy. He said indirect contacts with Washington are continuing and that several proposals are now under review.
At the same time, the foreign minister warned that Tehran will not consider ideas that come "alongside threats," stressing that Iran is prepared for every scenario. He said the country's military readiness is stronger than during the last war and cautioned that some actors are deliberately trying to push the region toward confrontation, while expressing hope that the United States will ultimately choose what he called "the wise option."
