Dr. Amir Givati, Director of the Israel Meteorological Service, told the Knesset Interior and Environmental Protection Committee on Monday that the country is facing "an exceptionally severe 24-hour period" and urged the public to significantly reduce outdoor activities. An orange warning is in effect for inland areas including the Jordan Valley, Judean Desert, Dead Sea region, and the Arava, with gusts expected up to 80 kilometers per hour (50 mph) during the same period.
The Meteorological Service forecast heavy rainfall and conditions described as atypical for an Israeli winter, with snow expected on Mount Hermon and in the northern Golan Heights on Tuesday. The Airports Authority stated that weather conditions may cause delays in takeoffs and landings overnight and into morning hours, adding that operational teams have been reinforced at Ben Gurion, Haifa, and Ramon airports. Flash flooding is anticipated in the Judean Desert and Dead Sea regions, while hazy conditions with possible localized sandstorms are forecast for southern Israel. Meteo Tech forecaster Lior Sodari stated that social media posts predicting snow in Jerusalem are misinformation, clarifying that snowfall will be limited to the northern Golan Heights, with 10 to 20 centimeters (4 to 8 inches) expected above 1,000 meters (3,280 feet).
